we believe God’s revealed

This irregular meter works with the tune
to which we sing the hymn “The Old Rugged Cross”
and includes a nod to the Indigo Girls!

We believe God’s revealed in what’s said and what’s done
that will make of our world more a home—
when we reach out in grace to include everyone,
when we live and we breathe God’s shalom.
For creation is God’s own design—
full of hope, full of joy—peace sublime.
It’s a prayer in which everyone’s kind,
and we’re all somewhat closer to fine.

We believe God’s made known in the way that we care—
in the way that we risk being real—
in the honesty claimed, in the truths we then share
about all that we think and we feel.
For creation is God’s own design—
full of hope, full of joy—peace sublime.
It’s a prayer in which everyone’s kind,
and we’re all somewhat closer to fine.

We believe God’s made real in the love we extend
not just to the ones who love us.
And in thus reaching out, we our world can transcend
in the life rising out of the dust.
For creation is God’s own design—
full of hope, full of joy—peace sublime—
It’s a prayer in which everyone’s kind,
and we’re all somewhat closer to fine.

And we know there’s a cost that we may have to pay
in the depths of what all we may feel.
Jesus taught us to live into love not its pain
as we validate what is most real.
For creation is God’s own design—
full of hope, full of joy—peace sublime.
It’s a prayer in which everyone’s kind,
and we’re all somewhat closer to fine.

When the tears fall unchecked and the hurt reaches deep,
and we feel like we’re left all alone.
may the love we have known our assurances keep
and God with us will welcome us home.
For creation is God’s own design—
full of hope, full of joy—peace sublime.
It’s a prayer in which everyone’s kind,
and we’re all somewhat closer to fine.
