O God to whom we pray this day

This pastoral prayer hymn is written in an 8.6.8.6 meter,
which can be sung to the hymn tune ST. ANNE
to which we sing, “O God, Our Help in Ages Past.”

O God, to whom we pray this day
believing that You care,
we come to You amidst the fray
and bring You us in prayer—

our doubts, our dreams, our hopes, our fears—
the truth of who we are,
what’s real beyond how it appears—
all we have known so far.

We trust You with what might yet be
because Your love assures
us of the possibility,
it’s Your love that endures.

Within what is and what has been,
Your presence with us now,
allows us to begin again
“amen” our closing vow.
