a meteorological lesson

Twice,
in the last few months,
I have seen the sky
starkly divided.
A line arcing from one far horizon to the other—
on one side,
the dark of storm,
no masses of cloud discernible,
no variation of color,
just a dark blanket pulled across the sky,
all light and color on the other side.

I tend not to divide so absolutely.

But as many are the days
on which the sky displays
every possible shade of gray,
twice,
in the last few months ….

And so to maintain,
absolutely,
there are no absolutes,
is as small a perspective
as claiming that’s all there are.
