a trilogy of wisdom

I recently heard,
for the first time,
Lily Tomlin’s definition of forgiveness:
“Forgiveness means giving up all hope for a better past.”
Wise woman.

Reminds me of something a wise man once wrote:
“This one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind
and straining forward to what lies ahead”
(Philippians 3:13).

Held in conjunction, of course, with another wise man’s insight:
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
(George Santayana).

So who is wise enough to put it all together?
