in the messy midst

We pray, our God,
in the messy midst of it all—
muddling through the middle of everything—
not at all removed;
not at all distant—
praying from within feeling and circumstance
as an incredibly incarnational experience—
seeking more than anything else
(whatever the circumstance and feeling)
connection—
affirmation of relationship and presence.
And so prayer is answer to prayer even as it is prayer.

And it occurred to me to wonder
if Jesus was Your prayer, God—

in the messy midst of it all—
muddling through the middle of everything—
not at all removed;
not at all distant—
within feeling and circumstance—
seeking more than anything else
(whatever the circumstance and feeling)
connection—
affirmation of relationship and presence—
answer to prayer even as prayer.

And it is so.
