two related observations

i. In our room at the Gasthaus,
we had a sink in our room.
Then there was a toilet down the hall
and a shower we shared with another room.

ii. In virtually every city we visited,
we noted green spaces—parks,
so cherished,
dotted with people—
as if home is where you eat and sleep,
but not necessarily where you spend your time—
not on a nice day
not in a culture of smaller private spaces
and more public ones.

How foreign to us.
How unfortunately foreign.
