both attracted to the light

In her book, Holy the Firm,
Annie Dillard wrote about the moth she noticed,
attracted to the light,
circling the candle,
gloriously immolated.

The moth I noticed,
equally attracted to the light,
circled the bathroom,
unable to find that open window through which it came,
to die, ingloriously,
and be found, later, lifeless,
on the bathroom floor.

The one, spectacularly,
became one with the light.
So did the other, I believe,

but only she knows it.
