It’s not just that it was 10:30 p.m.
and the Champs-Élysées was packed—
and not just with grown-ups either,
but families—children—young children.
It’s not just that the street was so crowded,
it’s that the restaurants were all open—
their sidewalk patios full
and that we sat and ate our supper
too full of too much to even think about bed.
