Observing measure after measure
(more smaller cars and none of the massive ones,
superb public transit—
be it trains, tubes or metros, trams or canals,
more bicycles and scooters
and lanes in the streets designated for them—
and that’s in addition to more people walking,
a greater emphasis on recycling,
the more extensive use of shared spaces,
coupled with smaller living spaces,
sheets of toilet paper instead of rolls),
said my American daughter,
“Can we move to Europe
for the sake of the environment?”
