We have set out the images of Your story:
• the shepherds keeping watch over their sheep
in the fields on that side of the sanctuary,
• the magi in the distant land of Fellowship Hall,
making their way to the sanctuary—
not arriving until early January,
• Mary and Joseph putting together their packing list
in the narthex before heading to Bethlehem,
• the stable, empty, waiting, in Bethlehem.
The lights shine;
the ever-green is out—
We’ve set them all out.
Now may they sink in—
sink in to do their transformative work
that we might shine Your truth
ever brighter, ever more consistently,
into our world—into our various circumstances,
as we try to live the story we tell.
This we pray,
in the name of the one whose story unfolds around us
and has unfolded, we believe, within us.
