We picture You, our God,
as having reached out
to embrace all creation
including each one of the seven billion (or so) of us—
all wrapped together in Your
powerfull, gracefull, initiating,
empowering, transformative, recreating,
healing, saving, liberating
And so we image You,
in answer to prayer,
not actually doing anything different—
not doing anything new—
not doing anything you’re not already doing.
And the act of praying
constitutes affirmation of what is,
not of what we wish were—
as if prayer were a light
cast into darkness
to illuminate what is.
And so we might end our prayers
not with the anticipation of “may it be so,”
but with the assurance of “it is so.”
It is so.
