after reading David and Goliath

We know what it’s like
to face problems of gigantic proportions.
We know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed.
We know what it’s like to be afraid.

We may know what it’s like
to know trust in the midst of all that—
to know assurance in the midst of all that,
and to confront all that
with trust and assurance supporting us.

Gift us, God, with what we need
to know more trust—
to know more assurance.

Gift us with the simple confidence,
(facing the problems—overwhelmed—frightened)
to turn to what we know:
the relationships we trust,
the stories we’ve been told,
the love we’ve been shown,
the grace that has always surprised us with wonder and with joy.

Gift us with the simple confidence
to turn to what we know
and to confront the challenges before us
in Jesus’ name.
This we pray,
amen.
