baptist status, v.

Baptists leaders, at their best, claim the authority not of infallibility,
some divinely blessed hierarchy, but precisely of fall-ability—
or fail-ability (I’m not sure of the correct etymology!)—
that very particular skill that comes only from falling and failing,
but always getting up,
always picking self up, brushing self off,
reorienting self to God and God’s way,
and moving on again.

Seems to me that’s exactly what we need more of:
the example that is the authority of fall/fail-ability.

Of course, I may be wrong!
