a prayer

It has occurred to me, God
that we name a person cooking a cook,
and a cook, we know, prepares a dish;
we name a person walking a walker
and a walker, we might say, experiences a walk;
we name a person on stage an actor,
and an actor offers an experience;
we name a person preaching a preacher,
and a preacher extends an opportunity,
but a person praying is a prayer,
and a prayer
creates, prepares, experiences, offers, and extends
a prayer.

We offer ourselves to You as prayers—
the fullness of who we are
our praise, our intercession, and our gratitude
as we pray within the fullness of who You are,
Amen.
