indebted

We’ve been without two cars for a while now,
and the girls and I have been walking a lot more than we used to.
While they have complained some,
they have been generally good-natured about it all.

The other evening though, we were all at home
(so so was the car).
I had to run pick up something at the church
and invited our oldest to go with me.
As we set out, she was dismayed—dismayed!
to find out we were driving.
“Can’t we walk?” she asked.
“No,” I replied, “we don’t have time.”

Said she in response,
“You owe me a walk to the church!”

And I am indebted to our lack.
