into the story of God

So do we invite You into our stories, God—
smack dab into the very middle of them—
all the incredibly specific details
as honestly perceived and interpreted as we know how?

Or do we invite ourselves into Your story
smack dab into the very middle of it—
all the incredibly specific details
as honestly perceived and interpreted as we know how?

What’s the difference?
Not so much which story we claim as ultimately true,
but which story we actually live as true—
take for granted true.

It’s certainly easier to invite You into our stories, God,
and in the name of respect and prayer and faith
to still validate our story as the one to be lived.

What would it mean, God,
to take Your story for granted
and in Your living to look for our own?
What would it mean
to take all the unfolding into the mystery of our tomorrow
and seek not some image of us being revealed,
but rather how our puzzle piece fits into Your image
already revealed?

Would it mean Church?
Would it mean redeeming?

May it be so?
