We were in the car before dawn,
on I-459 driving around Birmingham, Alabama,
coming up on I-20 south west of the city as the sun rose.
The girls were awake … to my great disappointment!
Until, as the sun rose behind us over a mountain lined with trees
one girl said to the other, both twisted around in their seats,
straining to see, both anticipating sunrise with great excitement,
“Look for the tree with light in it.”
“They all do! They all do!”
“Then the sun is rising.”
All creation eagerly awaits the revealing of the children of God … (Hebrews 8:19)
straining and twisting in anticipation and excitement
for a glimpse of those whose lives have light in them.
