happy day

A few weeks ago, our youngest turned six! Hard to believe it was six years ago we dropped our oldest off with friends and headed over to the hospital. And what a full six years it has been! Impossible, now, to imagine life without those dark eyes and that still (adverb there, definitely not adjective!) little form, so full of fascinating, obstinately opinionated, affectionate personality—so full of life. It hasn’t always been easy or fun (though it has been both more often than not), but it has absolutely never been boring. She raises as many questions about what’s to come as she does anticipation, but the stories she’s added to the ones we tell have immeasurably enriched the conversation of our family. For her birthday, we celebrated her, and the we so much the fuller for her participation in it. We celebrated her six-year history and our wide open future. And we prayed, as we do most regularly, that God will bless this little girl and lead her always through wonder into assurance and joy within community characterized by truth and grace and love.

A few weeks ago, Woodbrook Baptist Church turned 140! It was 140 years ago that Seventh Baptist “dropped off” 133 members who headed over to Eutaw Place and Dolphin Street. And what a full 140 years it has been! Impossible, now, to imagine life without the people, places and structures of a community of faith, so full of fascinating, obstinately opinionated, affectionate personality. It hasn’t always been easy or fun (though it has been both more often than not), but it has never been boring. Church raises as many questions about what’s to come as it does anticipation, but the stories told here, continuing to add to the ones we tell, immeasurably enrich the conversation of our family of faith. For our birthday, we celebrated the we so much the fuller for our participation in it. We celebrated our 140 year history and our wide open future. And we prayed, as we do most regularly, that God will bless this congregation and lead us always through wonder into assurance and joy within community characterized by truth and grace and love.
